The plan update involved detailed closure risk assessment workshops focused on identifying risks to future land users and integrating community engagement into closure decision-making. CDM Smith led internal and external stakeholder education sessions to strengthen understanding of closure processes and highlight the cost savings and community benefits that early closure planning can deliver. The 2024 Mine Closure Plan prepared by CDM Smith was structured to meet Department of Energy, Mining, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) requirements, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and demonstrating the client’s proactive approach to sustainable mine lifecycle management.
